Japan Day 5 – The search for street drift

We left Daikoku Futo parking area in search of street drift, we only had rough translation on where we could find it. Apon arriving to the spot we saw a few police cars which meant the majority had moved on, after trying to follow a few lighly modifiied cars we came across this JZX100 idling in the street. The plates said to us that this wasnt your run of the mill JZX100 and the exhaust note confirmed it. After this photo was taken the battery went flat on the camera, guess it couldnt keep up with all the action day 5 brought to us.

It was nearly 2 am by this stage and the driver of the JZX100 said the drifting was over for tonight, come back tomorow night he said. We decided to head home for the night when something incredible happened. We pulled up at the lights and an S14.5 pulled up behind us, Casey pulled out the Speedhunters spec cannon 5D MARKII  and started snapping away. The driver was enjoying this luckily and placed the car where Casey could get the best shots of it. Another set of traffic lights came up and Casey jumped out of the car asking where we could find some action, the driver said follow me and threw the car into a 4 lane fishtale down the highway. We were shitting ourselves with excitement and half an hour later we arrived at the spot.

There were cars everywhere, from D1 spec AE86s to Laurels, to 2wd WRXs even vans. It was a dream come true. We introduced ourselves to the driver of the S14.5 and chatted with him the whole night, they were lovely people and very happy to have us there. The police did show up but it was very light hearted, no one was stressed, the police just left the lights on, got out of the car, had a cigarette and chatted to each other while the drifters packed up, fitted the road wheels on their cars, they kindly gave us directions where to meet for saturday nights Touge session in the Fuji mountains, we thanked them and headed home to get a very short sleep.
