For weeks now I have been coming home from work and then doing 5 hours of solid work on the shed. Its really starting to look like the vision I had before moving in. Read on
Sunday night started with the tape measure and a pencil, I measured everything i needed stored then got to work designing what i needed. Monday morning i faxed through the steel order to Metaland and they pre cut everything ready to be picked up that night, Monday night i spent 4 hours welding everything together and making sure its as square as possible.
Then before i go to bed monday night i make a list of everything i need to get on tuesday including the wood to make the benches. Tuesday morning i fax through my order to Mitre 10 and they pre cut my MDF so its ready to pick up on the tuesday night. I also pick up the castor wheels from Metaland and that means im ready to finish them off. Having the MDF pre cut to width and length makes the job a lot easier and i can just jig saw out the corners.
Ive always wanted a motorcycle bench so I made one, its handy as I made it with storage below so I can get some plastic tubs so everything motorcycle related can be stored under it. In the two nights of working on these I have built a new rolling JIG for the ute chassis to sit up on, a pair of storage roll cabs to go under my main bench, a storage bench and a motorcycle bench. Not bad for a solid 8 hours work.

Now that’s a prime example of “If you want it done right, DO IT YOURSELF”.
I love the idea that your shed will be fully modular and you can rearange the shelves in any way you want (not to mention bringing them outside to keep the yard tidy when you work on the cars outside).

Nigel, where did you source those wheels for the benches from? They look pretty heavy duty?

I get them from metaland, the normal price for the swivels is $30 each and the fixed is $20 each, they take over 300kg each so you can easily hold a car on them if you needed to. If you buy bulk they slash that price so its best to get them all at once

Hey Nigel what size steel do u use for the benches, looks like 30x30x2, I guess you find this the most cost effective?

For the benches i use 50x50x1.6, its light and strong and easy to work out dimensions. The trouble with 30×30 or 40×40 is its a headache to work out your cutting list. 50×50 is easy.

Its perfectly road legal and registered Travis, i have indicators and a plate that just clips on for a blast around the roads. I bought it as a dirt bike and then did the mods myself.

Hi , I would like to built one like your bench , could you share some info regarding the bench dimensions and how do you get the bike on the bench ? Beside wood ,is it possible to built using metal as the base ? would this be less friction on the bike to get it up ?
