180SX – Whats the future hold?

Firstly photo credit goes to Daniel Dietrich, thanks mate love the use of film!

As i write this the 180SX sits in the shed feeling a little down about life, it requires a make over after QLD Matsuri. This car has been my sole “driving car” for the past 3 years, i am very gratefull it has been as good to me as i have been to it. I spend a lot of time prepping and keeping the car going and it rewards me with faultless performances time and time again.

To tell you the truth i feel absolutely gutted that we as australians get treated so baddly with any modified car on the road, i try not to whinge about the stuff that i know will never change so to cut a long story short im thinking of changing things up a little once the Hilux is operational.

Wheres this mentality come from? Well it was the trip to Japan, there are so many things that i love about the Japanese car culture that instead of making me psyched on life it made me return to Australia feeling super down about things.

If i was able to jump into a 180sx, with simple mods and have a spirited drive through a mountain road it would make me the happiest man alive, so with the Hilux nearing completion im thinking of moving the 180SX on to another budding drifter and going back to the simple road car with simple mods that can still be able to drift at the occasional practice day.

If your interested then pop me an email and i we can talk business.

  1. I’m guessing the S13 will then be used as the day/drift car?

  4. I hear you Nigel. I call it The Doldrums.. I get them every time I come back from Japan, and it doesn’t get easier after 4 trips (5th coming up in Feb). Usually lasts about a month or 2 for me.

Wait it out and see if your thinking changes.

  7. I’m not going to pretend I know how you feel as I haven’t been doing this stuff as long or to the level you have achieved. But after returning o the states from Japan I have thought about nothing but how to get there. Teaching english for awhile and then trying to get my job with Toyota seems to be the only option. I wish you the best and I have no qualms about seeing you in a coupe again, DO IT!!! The only track left to drift at might be shutting down soon so moving to Japan seems like a good idea. Good luck to you!

  9. I read this post and you put into words my exact thought process I had to comment “Well it was the trip to Japan, there are so many things that i love about the Japanese car culture that instead of making me psyched on life it made me return to Australia feeling super down about things”
I was in Japan this past November also and saw many of the same places as you as well as drifting Bihoku, Kobe and Ebisu matsuri had the time of my life and after long and hard thinking have decided to part ways with my 180 and all my parts for the exact same reasons.
Would love to build a dream car to slide love your work, you are certainately an inspiration thats for sure!
