ETS Drift Ute – Setting up

Setting the rear strut tops up will be rather challenging, ive ran out of tube once again and my new order wont be in till after D1NZ so this will have to wait a couple of weeks.

  1. You’re making awesome progress though, top notch work!! Does AU get most of it’s steel from JP? I hope things are starting to look more positive over there.

    • Im not sure where the steel comes from, would be locally made i would think.

  3. You know what would be sweet?

A F1 Style rocker arm setup. That’s what!

It would help packaging, you wouldn’t have to add a bunch of tubes to ruin the lines of you nice current setup, and you could use Koni or Bilstein coilover dampers that are more easily re-valved.

    Something like this . . . http://www.maierracing.com/ExtremeRearSupspensionPackage.html

Search the lowcost forums for some great inspiration on nice inboard push rod suspension designs that use steel for the rockers instead of pricey CNC alloy.

It would be a snowball design but a very cool one.

  4. Push rod would be WAY to much farting about. Nigels already dropped big dollars for top notch coilovers that are easily rebuildable and valved.. Plus their proven to work.. Go push rod and your almost starting from scratch in terms of shock valving.

I’m sure Nigle wil be able to tie them into the cage nicely. 🙂
No doubt at all that he’ll make it all work and be spectacular too.

  6. nigel, will you be using airjacks for the rear?

definitely would ad another functioning, wow factor to an already impressive build.

    • I really want to Paulie but the price eludes me, find them for around $500 a pair and id be all over it.

      • im with jase 86 and lucas, DIY.

a ghetto solution might be to retro fit some shock absorbers that have a thick pushrod. motor bike front forks maybe?

also, i know ksport do some, but that depends on your views of ksport as to how useful that information really is.

imho, you are going to all this effort to build a drift car to suit your requirements, why not make rear tyre that little bit easy…and cooler lol

  7. I would have though you’d be more than capable of making your own Nigel.. they really are quite simple…Just a tube in a tube with some seals and a spring to return them once the presure has been released…

    • Just make them..Old man and i did for his r33 race car. Just need a lathe. As Jase mentioned quited simple in design. Something you can definitly do with your skills.

  8. Seeing those shocks sitting above the diff running horizontally in line with the chassis would be awesome. If you kept the cantilever pivot point dead centre would it change the required spring rate and valving that much? How much unsprung weight would it also save?
