ETS Drift Ute – The weekly update

Another week and a heap more work completed on the Hilux, read on for the latest!

The most noticeable change is the front panel work, while its all not 100% fitted its getting there.

The new front guards are from an 02 model 4×4 Hilux, the bumper is from a 99 hilux, and the rest is all 2wd 02 hilux. I didnt want to run an 02 model bumper because it was too angular and it lost the classic styling of the “slab” front end that i love about Hiluxs. The best part of building a hilux is having dirt cheap panels available from any automotive outlet. An entire front end is less than $500 and that includes lights and brackets!

I have started on all the 1 inch tubing to hang the rear panels, its a subframe style set-up thats 100% removable. I just wish I could spend an entire week on this project instead of just daylight hours after work!

  10. Have you considered fiberglass fenders prerunner/baja stye? They usually start around 3 inch bulge and go up from there. I have no experience in the drift world but i can appreciate your fabrication work. Keep it up.

    • Hi Michael yes i have looked into those, the shape is far too extreme for my liking, no one makes the aussie/ japan hilux bodyline either, they are all US Tacoma styled. It would save me a world of hassle if i could find some nicely styled fenders in FRP. Thanks mate

  13. So about the hinges and trap doors comment, this sounds far fetched but are you thinking of having the fenders tied into the steering so that the fenders actually adjust when at full lock? because…. thatd be awesome
